Outreach Programs Coordinator
Alexander Cena is Outreach Programs Coordinator for the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities (VCIC), an organization that works with schools, businesses, and communities to achieve success through inclusion. In his role, Alex has primary responsibility for VCIC’s community outreach initiatives. He also supports diversity and inclusion programs for middle school, high school, college, and adult populations across Virginia.
Alex most recently served as the Director for Asian Pacific Islander American Affairs at the University of Florida. As a part of the Multicultural Diversity Affairs team, he was instrumental in expanding services to underrepresented communities and opening the first Asian Pacific Islander American Affairs center on a campus in the southeast region of the United States. From 2009 – 2013, he served as the DC Secondary School Manager for Asian American LEAD. Through AALEAD, Alex organized hundreds of workshops on culture and leadership and created partnerships with over 20 different organizations that work in the community.
Alex earned his BA at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he majored in International Studies and minored in Religious Studies. In 2010, he was accepted to the National Summer Learning Association’s Professional Learning Communities project, where he went through a two year nonprofit management training program.
